A connective tissue that is found in different parts of the body and is a tough and flexible material which is relatively is to damage is known as cartilage. It functions in reducing the friction and behaves like a cushion between the joints and helps in supporting weight when we run, bend and stretch and also holds the bones together. Articular cartilage is some sort of disability, causes severe pain and inflammation when the cartilage in a joint is damaged. For this, the recovery of cartilage is done through regeneration which is known as cartilage regeneration.

During cartilage regeneration, a small risks of damage to the surroundings including vessels, nerves or adjacent cartilage. Sometimes, in the most severe cases, a piece of cartilage can break off and joint becomes locked and this can lead to hemarthrosis (bleeding in the joint) and the influenced area may become blotchy and have a bruised appearance.
The main objective for rehabilitation after the cartilage regeneration is to provide an optimal environment for the functional recovery and adaptation of the chondral repair tissue, the knee, and the individual. Initial return to sport after the regeneration ranges from 6 to 18 months and the range in the timescale highlights the differences in the immediate post-surgery nature of the repaired tissue and the speed at which the new tissue regains sufficient stiffness to accept sports-specific load.
Also, the precise content and timelines for the rehabilitation program of cartilage regeneration will be mainly dependent on a number of patient and lesion –specific factors which have been previously identified. For the athletes, in addition to these patient and lesion-specific factors, there is also a need for a sport-specific approach towards rehabilitation.
